THIGPEN TO THE 'PHINS RESCUE

The Miami Dolphins acquired quarterback Tyler Thigpen from the Kansas City Chiefs for an undisclosed draft pick in 2010.

What does it give the Miami Dolphins
Already saddled with three losses, the Dolphins also face the challenge of trying to win without leader Chad Pennington, who's out for the season due to a shoulder injury. For the next few games Chad Henne (who is seen as the team's quarterback of the future) will get a shot at holding down the job under center, but Thigpen is a nice insurance policy who showed some talent in a few starts last season. He may challenge Henne somepoint at mid-season, along with rookie Pat White.

What does it give the Kansas City Chiefs
The new KC regime obviously didn't think as much of Thigpen as last year's brass did, and when GM Scott Pioli brought in former New England backup Matt Gutierrez, the writing may have been on the wall for Thigpen. The pick isn't great compensation, but it allows the Chiefs to move on. The fact Pioli is son-in-law to Dolphins boss Bill Parcells probably didn't hurt.
