VIKINGS GET MOSS BACK
The Minnesota Vikings acquired wide receiver Randy Moss from the New England Patriots for a third-round draft pick in 2011.
What does it give the Minnesota Vikings
And they say you can't go home again? Moss heads back to where it all began. He immediately takes pressure off aging quarterback Brett Favre, who hasn't been able to find chemistry this season with his receivers since Sidney Rice became sidelined early on. Moss is a game-breaker who should see the ball early and often from Favre, and should be the key to getting the Vikings back on track. He'll also help open things up for running back Adrian Peterson, who's off to a so-so start running the ball.
What does it give the New England Patriots
The Pats tired of Moss's act, which surprises no one. Moreover, New England has never been a free-spending club and were reluctant to give the aging Moss the big extension he wanted, so moving him helps them free up funds for other pressing roster issues (including possibly getting Pro Bowl offensive lineman Logan Mankins back in the fold). The recent explosive play of wideout and return man Brandon Tate may have been the final factor in the Pats letting Moss go. Expect Tate to take over Moss' role as the team's new primary deep target, and for Wes Welker and tight end Aaron Hernandez to continue to see regular looks from Tom Brady.
