'CANES CORRALE D-MAN VAN RIEMSDYK

The Carolina Hurricanes acquired defenseman Trevor van Riemsdyk and a seventh-round draft pick in 2018 from the Vegas Golden Knights for a second-round draft pick in 2017.

What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes struggled to find a consistent third pairing on defense last season, so the hope is van Riemsdyk will be a steadier presence there. He is expected to play alongside rookie Haydn Fleury, with veteran Klas Dahlbeck also in the mix. Van Riemsdyk is a solid, if unspectacular, defender. Good move by Carolina here.

What does it give the Vegas Golden Knights
The Golden Knights drafted an extreme amount of defensemen in the expansion draft, so it is obvious they are going to deal a few away before heading to training camp in September. They added another second rounder here (originally belonging to Pittsburgh, which was moved to Carolina in the Ron Hainsey deal in '16-17).

Fantasy impact
Van Riemsdyk might received a little power-play time with the Hurricanes, but he'll probably be used more on the penalty-killing unit (to go along with his typical third-pairing minutes). Therefore, his fantasy stock remains fairly low.
