KINGS CORRAL MITCHELL FROM MONTREAL

The Los Angeles Kings acquired forward Torrey Mitchell from the Montreal Canadiens for a conditional fifth-round draft pick in 2018.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
The Kings have used several different centers on the fourth line this season (Nick Shore; Nic Dowd; Brooks Laich; Michael Amadio; Andrew Crescenzi et al), and the addition of Mitchell suggests they are still searching for a solution. The versatile veteran can play all three forward positions and is a decent face-off man/penalty-killer. He will add depth for Los Angeles but may not play much once Jeff Carter returns from injury.

What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens received good value here for a player they were not using very much (Mitchell had already been a healthy scratch eight times in 2017-18, and also missed four games due to illness). Montreal receives at least a fifth-round pick in return, but the pick could be as high as their own fourth-round pick back if the Kings make the playoffs this season. LA had acquired the pick last season for winger Dwight King.

Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy value here, as Mitchell is a depth player who will likely be in and out of the Kings lineup over the course of his stay in Southern California.
