DEPLETED CANUCKS DEAL FOR DOWD

The Vancouver Canucks acquired forward Nic Dowd from the Los Angeles Kings for defenseman Jordan Subban.

What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks will be without their top two defensive centers for the next several weeks, as Bo Horvat (fractured ankle) recently joined Brandon Sutter (upper body) on Injured Reserve. Therefore, they decided to make a depth move for Dowd, who is more of a playmaker than defensive stud. He should see time on one of Vancouver's top three lines until one of the walking wounded returns.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
The Kings no longer needed Dowd, as both Adrian Kempe and Nick Shore surpassed him on the depth chart this season. Furthermore, Torrey Mitchell was recently acquired from Montreal to serve as the depth center. So, Los Angeles moved Dowd on to Vancouver and added Subban, a dynamic offensive defenseman who could get a better opportunity with his new organization--eventually.

Fantasy impact
Both Dowd and Subban should see their fantasy values rise a little after this deal, but neither are worth picking up at this time. Take a wait-and-see approach with both players.
