HURRICANES ACQUIRE JOSLIN
The Carolina Hurricanes acquired defenseman Derek Joslin from the San Jose Sharks for future considerations.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
Joslin is the type of low-key acquisition that the 'Canes have been successful with in the past, so they hope history repeats itself here. Carolina is expected to trade Ian White soon, so Joslin should help fill the hole along the blueline. He has some upside, and is only 23 years old. There is no downside to this move by Carolina at this time.
What does it give the San Jose Sharks
The Sharks recently recalled prospect Nick Petrecki, who now takes over as the No. 7 defenseman in place of Joslin. The Sharks used Joslin sparingly this season, and even had him playing on the wing at times. He likely wasn't going to advance much further in San Jose, so the club did him a favor by sending him to Carolina.
