STASTNY SENT BACK TO WINNIPEG
The Winnipeg Jets acquired center Paul Stastny from the Vegas Golden Knights for defenseman Carl Dahlstrom and a fourth-round draft pick in 2022.
What does it give the Winnipeg Jets
The Jets needed a center to play behind Mark Scheifele and ahead of Adam Lowry, so bringing back Stastny makes a ton of sense. He was originally acquired by Winnipeg in 2017-18 and went on to produce 13 points in 19 games as a Jet. Stastny then decided to sign with Vegas, but Winnipeg never wanted to lose him.
What does it give the Vegas Golden Knights
Vegas figures to be a big player in unrestricted free agency this year, so they needed to create more cap space. This trade accomplished that. Losing Stastny hurts a bit in the short term, but the Golden Knights have two young stud centers close to making an impact in Cody Glass and Peyton Krebs.
Fantasy impact
Stastny was a fit in Winnipeg the first time around, but he is now going on 35 years of age and seems to be a player in decline. He is risky business in fantasy drafts this year. Buyer beware on the veteran center.
