OTTAWA ADDS AUSTIN WATSON
The Ottawa Senators acquired winger Austin Watson from the Nashville Predators for a fourth-round draft pick in 2021.
What does it give the Ottawa Senators
In Watson, the Senators add another physical player to the squad (after previous deals involving Erik Gudbranson and Josh Brown). However, Watson is a winger not a defenseman like the other two and should play regularly as a bottom-six forward in Ottawa. He adds grit and solid defensive work, with a modicum of skill and production.
What does it give the Nashville Predators
The Predators saved $1.5 million in salary cap space for the next three seasons with this move, so they could be looking to acquire a pricier player on the unrestricted free agent market. Nashville got Colorado's fourth rounder in '21 in this trade, although it feels more like a salary dump than anything else. Are the Preds about to make another move?
Fantasy impact
Watson could see more playing time on the rebuilding Senators, but that will not translate into great fantasy production. He does not need to be picked up in 2020-21.
