TIMASHOV TRADED TO THE ISLANDERS

The New York Islanders acquired left winger Dmytro Timashov from the Detroit Red Wings for future considerations.

What does it give the New York Islanders
The Islanders still have to re-sign No. 1 center Mathew Barzal, so adding another restricted free agent in Timashov here is a somewhat curious move. Expect at least one more trade involving Islanders players in the near future. Timashov could become a staple as a bottom-six winger for the Isles (when he re-signs).

What does it give the Detroit Red Wings
The Red Wings decided not to re-sign Timashov, opting instead to trade him for future considerations. That should give the likes of Mathias Brome, Givani Smith and others a better opportunity to crack the roster in training camp. Timashov only made five NHL appearances for Detroit in 2019-20.

Fantasy impact
Timashov might become a valuable role player for the Islanders, but he should not be drafted in virtually all league formats this year. His overall offensive upside is limited.
