PENS GET PONIKAROVSKY

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired winger Alexei Ponikarovsky from the Toronto Maple Leafs for winger Luca Caputi and defenseman Martin Skoula.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins land the much-coveted Ponikarovsky, who will likely be used alongside Evgeni Malkin. The Pens have had trouble finding a winger to play with 'Geno' this season, so Ponikarovsky will help in that area. He's big, strong, talented, and a proven NHL scorer that drives to the net. He's also a pending UFA, so this could be a rental situation.

What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
In Caputi, the Maple Leafs get one of Pittsburgh's top prospects. He's a scoring winger enjoying a solid campaign in the AHL. With Toronto in full-blown rebuilding mode, Caputi should get a chance to become a top-six winger sooner rather than later. While Skoula was probably added primarily for cap purposes, the former first-rounder surely hopes to turn his career around in Toronto, which could be one of his last kicks at the NHL can--if not his last.
