DUCKS GET GOALIE MACDONALD

The Anaheim Ducks acquired goaltender Joey MacDonald from the Toronto Maple Leafs for a seventh-round draft pick in 2011.

What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks add some veteran goaltending depth to shore up that area after trading both Justin Pogge and Vesa Toskala earlier in the day. MacDonald is a veteran who has his moments and can be very good when he gets in a zone, and he should push for backup duties (along with also-recently-acquired Curtis McElhinney) behind recently-extended Jonas Hiller. MacDonald's contract is up this summer so he can be let go if he doesn't pan out.

What does it give the Toronto Maple Leafs
This is not exactly a big move by Toronto (since they are set in net with J-S Giguere and Jonas Gustavsson) but they at least get another draft pick for the future while cutting some stretch-run salary. A solid little deal by GM Brian Burke to get something for an impending free agent who was not playing for Toronto.
