WILD ADD CHRISTENSEN FOR WELLMAN
The Minnesota Wild acquired center Erik Christensen and a conditional seventh-round draft pick in 2013 from the New York Rangers for forward Casey Wellman.
What does it give the Minnesota Wild
Christensen has talent, but he's never been able to harness it and play with consistency at the highest level. He'll get one final shot in Minnesota, where GM Chuck Fletcher and coach Mike Yeo are familiar with him from their days in the Pittsburgh Penguins organization. The draft pick will only become a factor if Christensen doesn't pan out.
What does it give the New York Rangers
Wellman is a speedy forward with some decent offensive upside. He hadn't been able to crack Minnesota's lineup for more than a few cups of coffee the last few seasons, so maybe the change of scenery will serve him well. For now, he'll head to the AHL's Connecticut Whale. At worst, he provides excellent forward depth.
