NISKALA TO PHILLY

The Philadelphia Flyers acquired defenseman Janne Niskala from the Nashville Predators for winger Triston Grant and a seventh-round draft pick in 2009.

What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
Niskala is an intriguing prospect who has a chance to become a factor in Philadelphia, provided rumors of his bolting to the Russian KHL for the start of 2008-09 are false. Niskala has put up good numbers in the AHL, but was a victim of the numbers game in Nashville. With the Flyers, he's expected to compete with the likes of Ryan Parent, Steve Eminger and Danny Syvret for playing time.

What does it give the Nashville Predators
Grant is a tough winger with modest skills, but he could be in line to replace the departed Darcy Hordichuk as Nashville's resident enforcer. Niskala was frustrated with his lack of NHL opportunities, so the Preds are giving him a better chance by dealing him to Philly. The seventh-round pick next season is a bonus for Nashville.
