DENIS TO T-BAY

The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired goaltender Marc Denis from the Columbus Blue Jackets for left wing Fredrik Modin and goaltender Fredrik Norrena.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
Finally, the Lightning have found their starting netminder in Denis. While he was wildly inconsistent in Columbus, Denis is an upgrade over the John Grahame-Sean Burke tandem for the Bolts. Since Tampa Bay needed to shed a salary (at least) this off-season, Modin was the logical player to go. GM Jay Feaster did well in adding a goalkeeper with upside, while holding onto his top three forwards: Brad Richards, Vincent Lecavalier and Martin St. Louis. He also did well to sign Norrena, who was used to complete the deal.

What does it give the Columbus Blue Jackets
The Blue Jackets were still missing one top-six forward from their impressive, growing stable of talent. Enter Modin, who did wonders for offensive players such as Richards and St. Louis in Tampa Bay. He'll probably be asked to do the same as a two-way presence for the likes of Rick Nash, Nikolai Zherdev and rookie Gilbert Brule. Norrena will likely back up Pascal Leclaire in Columbus, but could see a fair bit of ice time if the latter struggles with his No. 1 status. A good deal all around.
