TONY DeANGELO DEALT TO PHILADELPHIA

The Philadelphia Flyers acquired defenseman Tony DeAngelo and a seventh-round draft pick in 2022 (No. 220 overall) from the Carolina Hurricanes for a fourth-round draft pick in 2022 (No. 101 overall), a conditional third-round draft pick in 2023 and a second-round draft pick in 2024.

What does it give the Philadelphia Flyers
The Flyers are getting an extremely talented defenseman, but one with issues. DeAngelo tends to rub teammates the wrong way, which could explain why he will be joining his third NHL team in three seasons. Philadelphia hopes new head coach John Tortorella can push the right buttons and reel DeAngelo in. In terms of talent, DeAngelo has loads.

What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes will surely look for a replacement for DeAngelo from outside the organization. DeAngelo was their main power-play quarterback in 2021-22, but he clearly wore out his welcome quickly. Carolina did well to get back extra draft picks in this trade. Look for Carolina to be very active next week, and they could possibly be looking at UFA D-man John Klingberg.

Fantasy impact
DeAngelo's stock dips moving from Carolina to Philadelphia, so buyer beware on him. While he should quarterback the power play with the Flyers, he joins a crowded blueline with the likes of Ryan Ellis, Ivan Provorov and Cam York.
