DADONOV, GURIANOV SWAP TEAMS
The Dallas Stars acquired winger Evgenii Dadonov from the Montreal Canadiens for winger Denis Gurianov.
What does it give the Dallas Stars
In Dadonov, Dallas is getting a player with more proven production than Gurianov. He has only 18 points so far this season, but will likely slot in on the second or third line with the Stars. Montreal is retaining 50 percent of his salary, so it leaves the door open for another move. Also, being a UFA at the end of the season helps the Stars' cap picture going forward.
What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
Gurianov was expected to become a power forward when the Stars took him in the first round in the 2015 NHL Draft, but so far he has not lived up to that potential. A pending restricted free agent, Gurianov hopes to unlock that potential with the Canadiens so that he can add to their core for the future. His dress rehearsal down the stretch may be his last shot.
Fantasy impact
Gurianov is the more intriguing fantasy player going forward, but both Russian wingers are somewhat risky. In fact, both Gurianov and Dadonov could end up in the KHL for the 2023-24 campaign. Take a chance on Gurianov, especially in keeper formats. Pass on Dadonov.
