CHYCHRUN SENT TO THE SENS

The Ottawa Senators acquired defenseman Jakob Chychrun from the Arizona Coyotes for a conditional first-round draft pick in 2023, a conditional second-round draft pick in 2024 and a second-round draft pick in 2026.

What does it give the Ottawa Senators
The Senators have gotten hot recently, which has prompted the team to become buyers before the trade deadline. Chychrun is a talent upgrade along Ottawa's blueline and could make an impact down the stretch. He joins fellow left-handed defenders Thomas Chabot, Jake Sanderson and Erik Brannstrom. One is expected to play on the right side.

What does it give the Arizona Coyotes
For Arizona, this deal adds three more quality future assets for the rebuilding franchise. The first-rounder in '23 is top-5 protected, while the second-rounder in '24 could become a first-rounder in '24 (top-10 protected) if the Senators reach the Eastern Conference final this spring. Are the Coyotes done dealine? Probably not. Expect a few more veterans to be dealt.

Fantasy impact
The Senators are rising up the standings, so Chychrun's numbers should improve down the stretch. He is signed through 2024-25, so it will be interesting to see how Ottawa will distribute the ice time for all of their left-handed defensemen moving forward.
