THRASHERS SEND TWO TO SJ

The San Jose Sharks acquired winger Brett Sterling, defenseman Michael Vernace and a seventh-round draft pick in 2010 from the Atlanta Thrashers for future considerations.

What does it give the San Jose Sharks
The Sharks add a potential restricted free agent in Vernace, a potential UFA in Sterling and a seventh rounder for futures. This was a deal made to accomodate Atlanta. Vernace could be a depth player for the Sharks in '10-11, while Sterling is likely to test the market.

What does it give the Atlanta Thrashers
The Thrashers needed to dump a couple of contracts in order to complete their mega deal with Chicago, since that trade would have put them over the 50-contract limit. Therefore, they moved out two AHL players and threw in a seventh rounder to complete the deal. They won't get much in return.
