CANUCKS, PENGUINS CONNECT FOR MINOR DEAL
The Vancouver Canucks acquired defenseman Mark Friedman and forward Ty Glover from the Pittsburgh Penguins for defenseman Jack Rathbone and forward Karel Plasek.
What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
For Vancouver, Friedman should provide greater defensive depth than Rathbone. Unlike Rathbone, Friedman is a right defenseman (which is the Canucks' biggest need at present time). It is a good landing spot for Friedman, although he will likely remain in the AHL for now. Glover is a depth forward.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
For the Penguins, they get a little younger for their AHL affiliate with Rathbone in for Friedman. Plasek is a wild card, but one with higher upside than Glover. The Penguins are slowly (but surely) ridding themselves of most players acquired during the Ron Hextall era. This is clearly the Kyle Dubas show now.
Fantasy impact
There is no fantasy impact here, as all four players involved in this trade should remain in the minors for the foreseeable future.
