RANGERS ADD ALEX WENNBERG

The New York Rangers acquired center Alex Wennberg from the Seattle Kraken for a second-round draft pick in 2024 and a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2025.

What does it give the New York Rangers
The Rangers will probably rent Wennberg for the rest of the 2023-24 campaign, plus playoffs. That is because regular third-line center Filip Chytil is out for the season but should return in 2024-25. In the meantime, Wennberg will provide quality two-way play and solid playmaking skills down the stretch.

What does it give the Seattle Kraken
The Kraken did well to unload one of their pending UFA's for two draft picks. The conditional fourth-rounder in '25 can become a third-rounder, but the conditions are based on the Dallas Stars (who originally owned the pick). Seattle has several other free agents-to-be, so they are probably just getting warmed up.

Fantasy impact
Wennberg is not a threat to score very many goals, but his vision and passing skills are useful. That said, he is unlikely to see much power-play time in New York. Pass on picking Wennberg up at this time.
