TRENIN TRADED TO COLORADO
The Colorado Avalanche acquired winger Yakov Trenin and defenseman Graham Sward from the Nashville Predators for defenseman Jeremy Hanzel and a third-round draft pick in 2025.
What does it give the Colorado Avalanche
The Avs are seemingly going for broke this season, as they have been the most active team leading up to the NHL trade deadline. Trenin is a quality grinding forward who is a pending UFA, so he might be yet another rental for Colorado. He should add plenty of grit and sandpaper to the Avalanche down the stretch.
What does it give the Nashville Predators
The Predators are an example of a team that is both buying and selling before this year's deadline. They are currently in a playoff position, so they may still make more additions before the deadline. For now, they decided to move Trenin before potentially losing him for nothing this summer. A good trade for both teams.
Fantasy impact
Trenin could score more as a member of the Avalanche, but they are now a very deep squad up front. Keep an eye on his usage before taking a flier on him. As for the two defense prospects involved in this deal, Hanzel just signed his entry-level contract before the trade. So, he might be closer to the NHL than Sward. That said, Sward has more keeper value as a potential offensive defenseman in Colorado. Hanzel has decent value in the long run, too. Both should now be on the keeper radar.
