DUBOIS DEALT IN STUNNER!

The Los Angeles Kings acquired goaltender Darcy Kuemper from the Washington Capitals for forward Pierre-Luc Dubois.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
Kuemper provides the Kings with a proven starting goaltender, something they have lacked in recent seasons. However, Kuemper is heading into his age-34 season and is coming off a significantly down year with the Capitals. He is a good candidate to bounce back, but for the Kings this trade is just as much about moving on from Dubois' lengthy contract.

What does it give the Washington Capitals
The Capitals will be the latest team to take a chance on Dubois. He has offensive upside but has been inconsistent, and is signed all the way through the 2030-31 season. He also dropped off to just 40 points in 82 games last season. Still, Dubois is a three-time 60-point scorer entering his prime years. Perhaps he can find a better fit with the Capitals.

Fantasy impact
Both Kuemper and Dubois receive boosts from this trade. Kuemper lost playing time to Charlie Lindgren last season but will now get a chance to backstop a stronger Kings team, with lesser competition in backup David Rittich. Meanwhile, Dubois gets another fresh start and could reestablish himself as an offensive threat in D.C. In fantasy leagues, both players are interesting rebound candidates, but do not overrate them on draft day.
