SENATORS SEND CHYCHRUN TO WASHINGTON
The Washington Capitals acquired defenseman Jakob Chychrun from the Ottawa Senators for defenseman Nick Jensen and a third-round draft pick in 2026.
What does it give the Washington Capitals
Chychrun provides the Capitals with a solid two-way, top-four defenseman. The 26-year-old has just one year remaining on his contract, but he should fit right in with an improved D corps in Washington and play a role on the second power-play unit. This is a nice acquisition, as the Capitals gave up only a veteran defenseman and a mid-round draft pick.
What does it give the Ottawa Senators
The Senators bring in a veteran defender in Jensen, who should play plenty of minutes in a shutdown role. A good puck mover, he will offer stability and experience to Ottawa's defense corps. That said, Jensen does not have the upside of Chychrun and is entering his age-34 season. This is not a great return for the Sens. They also netted only a third-round draft pick in the trade.
Fantasy impact
This trade will not have much fantasy impact. Chychrun should keep a similar role in Washington that sees him in the 35-45 point range, making him a second-tier fantasy defenseman. Jensen's game does not make him of interest in fantasy leagues, and that will not change in Ottawa.
