KOTALIK TO EDMONTON
The Edmonton Oilers acquired winger Ales Kotalik from the Buffalo Sabres for a second-round draft pick in 2009.
What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
After adding a left-winger to play on the top line, the Oilers have now added a right-handed shot to play in place of the traded Erik Cole on the second line. Kotalik is a potential unrestricted free agent this summer, like Cole was, so this could be a short-term move to try to get into the playoffs. Was it enough?
What does it give the Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres lost a second rounder in the deal to land center Dominic Moore, so this move gets a pick back in the same round for another potential unrestricted free agent. Kotalik was no longer a factor as a top-six winger in Buffalo, so Moore should be a better fit. Getting a second rounder in this deal makes sense.
