TOMASINO TRADED TO PITTSBURGH

The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired forward Philip Tomasino from the Nashville Predators for a fourth-round draft pick in 2027.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
Tomasino provides the Penguins with a younger depth option at forward. After showing promise in his first three NHL seasons (71 points in 148 games), the 23-year-old became a frequent healthy scratch in Nashville. He will have to find more consistency but should get a good opportunity to prove himself on a Penguins team that has struggled to score this season.

What does it give the Nashville Predators
For the Predators, this is a disappointing outcome. They will move on after Tomasino could not secure a spot in the lineup on a regular basis this season. Nashville at least picked up a draft pick (the fourth-round draft pick in 2027 originally belonged to the New York Rangers), which could help them in another trade ahead of a playoff push, or to restock for the future.

Fantasy impact
Tomasino was a first-round pick in 2019, so he looks like a decent low-risk addition for Pittsburgh. He gets an immediate boost from this trade and should get to play up or down the lineup. He could generate fantasy interest if he clicks with Sidney Crosby or Evgeni Malkin. That potential makes him worth adding in most fantasy leagues, but otherwise take a wait-and-see approach.
