GRANLUND, CECI DEALT TO DALLAS

The Dallas Stars acquired forward Mikael Granlund and defenseman Cody Ceci from the San Jose Sharks for a first-round draft pick in 2025 and a conditional fourth-round draft pick in 2025.

What does it give the Dallas Stars
The Stars are banged up at the moment, so adding Granlund and Ceci without subtracting anyone from the current roster is huge for them. Granlund will help alleviate the loss of Tyler Seguin for the rest of the season, while Ceci helps curb the loss of Nils Lundkvist for the rest of the season (as well as helping out in the short term with Miro Heiskanen injured).

What does it give the San Jose Sharks
Both Granlund and Ceci expressed a desire to remain in San Jose, but this move was a no-brainer with the club mired in last place in the overall standings. The extra first-rounder will help the rebuilding Sharks, while the fourth-round pick could turn into a third-rounder if the Stars reach the 2025 Stanley Cup Final. Look for San Jose to continue the roster purge this season.

Fantasy impact
Granlund was producing well for the Sharks, so an adjustment period may be required as he heads to a true Stanley Cup contender. This might not be a bad time to trade Granlund in fantasy circles while his value remains high. Meanwhile, Ceci's fantasy value was always going to be limited.
