DESHARNAIS DEALT AGAIN THIS SEASON
The San Jose Sharks acquired defenseman Vincent Desharnais from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a fifth-round draft pick in 2028.
What does it give the San Jose Sharks
A huge mountain of a defenseman, Desharnais' main attribute is his ability to kill penalties. He turns 29 later this year but should provide some leadership and penalty-killing prowess to the young Sharks. He is signed through 2025-26, so this could be an indicator that San Jose will try to trade a defenseman before this week's deadline. Stay tuned!
What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
For the Penguins, this deal could be the first of many little trades designed to add more future assets into the organization. Desharnais was just acquired from Vancouver in the deal that sent Marcus Pettersson to the Canucks, but he obviously did not impress Pittsburgh during his brief stint with the club. Expect the Pens to be active before Friday afternoon.
