DUMOULIN DEALT TO THE DEVILS
The New Jersey Devils acquired defenseman Brian Dumoulin from the Anaheim Ducks for winger Herman Traff and a conditional second-round draft pick in 2025.
What does it give the New Jersey Devils
With both Jonas Siegenthaler and Dougie Hamilton currently injured, the Devils felt compelled to add a short-term fix for the blueline. Dumoulin is a grizzled veteran with Stanley Cup championship pedigree, so he could help New Jersey down the stretch. The Devils just lost Jack Hughes for the rest of the season, so bringing in another center is now top priority.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
For the Ducks, getting both a solid winger prospect and a second-rounder in '25 is a coup for GM Pat Verbeek. The pick will be the better of two second-rounders currently owned by New Jersey (originally owned by Winnipeg or originally owned by Edmonton). Meanwhile, Traff is a solid prospect who adds to Anaheim's quality prospect pool.
Fantasy impact
Dumoulin has not fantasy value as a strict defensive defenseman. Traff is an intriguing prospect but Anaheim is loaded with young forwards. Keep an eye on him but there is no need to immediately pick him up.
