RANTANEN DEALT TO DALLAS!

The Dallas Stars acquired forward Mikko Rantanen from the Carolina Hurricanes for winger Logan Stankoven, a conditional first-round draft pick in 2026, a conditional first-round draft pick in 2028, a third-round draft pick in 2026 and a third-round draft pick in 2027.

What does it give the Dallas Stars
Dallas makes a major statement bringing in Rantanen, one of the league's elite offensive players. The talented Finn had a short stay in Carolina after a surprising trade from Colorado earlier in the season. He will now bolster the Stars high-scoring forward group. The 28-year-old Rantanen also agreed to an eight-year contract extension with the trade, so he should help make Dallas a Stanley Cup contender for years to come.

What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
Just weeks after stunning the hockey world by acquiring Rantanen, the Hurricanes have traded him once again. They get a huge return in the form of multiple high draft picks, plus a highly touted young player in Stankoven. The 22-year-old has enjoyed a decent rookie season, posting 29 points in 58 games. He should become a staple in Carolina's top six. For their playoff hopes this season, this trade is somewhat disappointing. But considering Rantanen managed only 6 points in 12 games as a Hurricane and his future there was uncertain, this is an impressive deal.

Fantasy impact
Can Rantanen rebound after a mediocre stretch with the Hurricanes? That will be the question as he joins the Stars. But with their talent up front, there is every reason to believe Rantanen should sustain similar production to his years with the Avalanche. As for Stankoven, he should benefit from this trade in the short term, as Carolina is not quite as deep on the wing. He should have an easier path to top-six minutes, and they may rely on him for more offense right away.
