CODY GLASS GOES TO NEW JERSEY
The New Jersey Devils acquired forwards Cody Glass and Jonathan Gruden from the Pittsburgh Penguins for winger Chase Stillman, forward Max Graham and a third-round draft pick in 2027.
What does it give the New Jersey Devils
The Devils lost a major piece when Jack Hughes went down for the rest of 2024-25, so New Jersey was desperate to add a center before the trade deadline. Glass is sound defensively and a good penalty killer but his offense has been slow to arrive at the NHL level. Gruden is a grinding forward who might remain in the AHL for the foreseeable future.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins did well to add future assets before the trade deadline, including Stillman, Graham and the third-rounder in '27 here. Stillman has struggled to produce at the AHL level, so a change of scenery is what he needs right now. Graham is a big center prospect who is playing well in the WHL this season. Pittsburgh did very well in this trade.
Fantasy impact
Glass will get a chance to showcase his ability down the stretch, mostly due to the Hughes injury (and New Jersey's dearth of center options). Still, his lack of scoring ability makes him unusable in most fantasy leagues. Stillman and Gruden have no fantasy value, while Graham could be an intriguing fantasy prospect down the road (but not for some time to come).
