The Chicago Blackhawks acquired defensemen Kim Johnsson and Nick Leddy from the Minnesota Wild for defenseman Cam Barker.
What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
The Blackhawks get a more experienced puck-moving defenseman in Johnsson, and a solid long-term prospect in Leddy. They also get salary-cap relief next year, since Johnsson is scheduled to become a UFA. He will not likely be re-signed by the 'Hawks.
What does it give the Minnesota Wild
In Barker, the Wild land a younger defenseman than Johnsson--and one with considerably more all-around upside. He's been inconsistent, but his potential is high. Still, Minnesotans may not be happy about losing local product Leddy.
