The Dallas Stars acquired defenseman Doug Janik from the Chicago Blackhawks for a conditional seventh-round draft pick.

Janik has been a popular player this preseason, going from Chicago to Dallas, then back to Chicago and now back to big D. He'll start 2008-09 as the Stars' No. 6 defenseman with Sergei Zubov on IR.
What does it give the Chicago Blackhawks
The Blackhawks would have liked to send Janik to the AHL but knew the Stars would once again claim him via waivers. So, they decided to add a middling future asset for his services. Don't be surprised if the 'Hawks re-claim Janik off waivers once Zubov is activated.
