BOUWMEESTER TO CALGARY
The Calgary Flames acquired defenseman Jay Bouwmeester from the Florida Panthers for defenseman Jordan Leopold and a third-round draft pick in 2009.

The Flames are hoping they can get Bouwmeester signed to a contract before he hits the UFA market. It cost them a third rounder to be able to talk to J-Bo early. They feel they have a great chance to land the Alberta native.
What does it give the Florida Panthers
The Panthers get a third rounder for Bouwmeester's rights, plus Leopold's rights. Florida was able to sign Steven Reinprecht after acquiring his rights earlier, so they hope they can do the same thing with Leopold.
