'CANES RE-ACQUIRE STILLMAN
The Carolina Hurricanes acquired winger Cory Stillman from the Florida Panthers for forward Ryan Carter and a fifth-round draft pick in 2011.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
Stillman has a ton of experience and is a former Stanley Cup champion with the 'Canes, so he returns to very familiar territory. He'll add more scoring up front, but Carolina cannot expect him to be as good as during his first stint with the club. At this point, he's not really top-six winger material anymore. Carter had been serving as a fourth-line center, a job that the versatile Patrick Dwyer will likely play now.
What does it give the Florida Panthers
The Panthers are expected to make a lot of deals before the trading deadline, and Stillman may be just the tip of the iceberg. In return, they receive a serviceable fourth liner in Carter and a fifth rounder. More importantly, it sets the Cats down the path of reconstruction. Expect many other vets to follow, including Bryan McCabe, Christopher Higgins and Radek Dvorak.
