BLUES LAND VETERAN D-MAN LEOPOLD
The St. Louis Blues acquired defenseman Jordan Leopold from the Buffalo Sabres for a second-round draft pick in 2013 and a conditional fifth-round draft pick in 2013.
What does it give the St. Louis Blues
The Blues land a veteran puck mover with a wealth of experience here. He's ideally suited to playing a third-pairing role, which is likely to be his role during his stint in St. Louis. The price here was relatively steep but it's not terrible in a clear sellers' market such as this season.
What does it give the Buffalo Sabres
The Sabres are in full-blown rebuilding mode now, and will look to liquidate assets as much as possible until the end of the season. Leopold's departure should give Buffalo management a chance to give longer looks to younger blueliners such as {P Mike Weber} and {P Mark Pysyk}.
Fantasy impact
Leopold doesn't provide much offense, and that's not going to change now that he's on a defense-first outfit like the Blues. If anything, his fantasy value probably went down a little here.
