CANUCKS GET STARS CENTER ROY

The Vancouver Canucks acquired center Derek Roy from the Dallas Stars for defenseman Kevin Connauton and a second-round draft pick in 2013.

What does it give the Vancouver Canucks
The Canucks have been seeking center help all season long, so adding Roy here is a good move for GM Mike Gillis and the Canucks. He will replace {P Jordan Schroeder} on the third line once {P Ryan Kesler} returns from injury. Connauton is a good prospect, so the price here was fairly steep. However, Gillis had to make this move, since his team's playoff window is starting to close.

What does it give the Dallas Stars
Roy didn't really do much during his brief time in Dallas, and he wasn't expected to re-sign with the club. Therefore, the Stars did quite well here to land a solid prospect in Connauton plus a second rounder. The Stars are looking to retool now so don't expect this to be their last move before the deadline. They'll likely deal away a few more players. This was a very good haul for them.

Fantasy impact
Roy's short-term fantasy value should at least remain even in Vancouver, if not get a small spike. Connauton's long-term fantasy value probably went up as well, since he may have an easier time cracking the Stars' lineup going forward.
