CANADIENS GET BLUELINER WEAVER

The Montreal Canadiens acquired defenseman Mike Weaver from the Florida Panthers for a fifth-round draft pick in 2015.

What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
In Weaver, the Habs land a steady defensive defenseman with experience. He's similar to current Hab {P Francis Bouillon}, who doesn't get into the lineup often these days. Look for Weaver to be paired with {P Douglas Murray} on the third pairing going forward, so that Montreal can continue to develop both {P Jared Tinordi} and {P Nathan Beaulieu} in the AHL.

What does it give the Florida Panthers
The Panthers are sellers at the trade deadline this year, so it only made sense to see Weaver jettisoned. This will give some of Florida's younger defensemen, such as {P Dmitry Kulikov}, {P Erik Gudbranson}, {P Dylan Olsen} and possibly {P Alex Petrovic} (currently in the AHL) a chance to collece more ice time. The pick is only in Round 5, but the '15 draft is deep.

Fantasy impact
There's not much fantasy value in Weaver's game, and that won't change much as he moves to Montreal. There's a bit more fantasy value with Florida's younger blueliners, especially Kulikov and Olsen.
