BRENT FOR DIXON
The Pittsburgh Penguins acquired center Tim Brent from the Anaheim Ducks for center Stephen Dixon.
What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
A 23-year-old pivot who can play both ends of the ice and does not shy away from traffic. He's almost a second Maxime Talbot. Brent played 15 games
for Anaheim last season, so he is on the cusp of earning an NHL job.
However, given the Penguins depth down the middle, he will need to move
to the wing or remain in Wilkes-Barre/Scranton (AHL). Brent was
drafted twice by the Ducks--the second time after he could not come to terms with the team and re-entered the draft...only to be picked up by the same team again.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
Dixon, at 21, is further away from the NHL so Anaheim can have more time
to figure out how the pivot fits into their system. He is a similar
player to Brent, just a little ways down the depth chart. If anything, Dixon projects to become a better shutdown center than Brent, so Ducks GM Brian Burke could groom Dixon to be an eventual replacement for Todd Marchant or Samuel Pahlsson down the road.
