HNIDY-BOCHENSKI SWAP PLACES
The Boston Bruins acquired defenseman Shane Hnidy and a sixth-round draft pick in 2008 from the Anaheim Ducks for winger Brandon Bochenski.
What does it give the Boston Bruins
With Aaron Ward currently injured, the only other Bruins blueliner with a right-handed shot was Dennis Wideman. Therefore, adding another in the form of Hnidy makes sense at this time. He'll probably play a third-pairing role, and provide both depth and a little toughness to the Bruins lineup. Moreover, Bochenski wasn't a Claude Julien type-of-player, so they were happy to also get a draft pick for him.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
Bochenski is typical of the standard Brian Burke acquisition because he is not a physical player. That said, he is a sleeper who could emerge as a top-six forward in Anaheim if rookie Bobby Ryan fails to produce. The Ducks are Bochenski's fourth NHL organization, so he needs to start showing that he belongs in the big league. In Bochenski, the Ducks pick up a pure goal scorer, who isn't scoring goals, though. Bochenski made a big impression when he joined the Bruins (11 goals in 31 games), but fell out of favor when they brought in coach Julien.
