FLAMES, DUCKS TRADE GOALIES
The Calgary Flames acquired goaltender Vesa Toskala from the Anaheim Ducks for goaltender Curtis McElhinney.
What does it give the Calgary Flames
In a swap of backups, the Flames add the more experienced Toskala. Flames GM Darryl Sutter knows Toskala well from their days in San Jose, so this may perhaps be Toskala's last stand in the NHL. He won't play unless fellow Finn Miikka Kiprusoff needs a rest or gets injured.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks will ride Swiss Olympian Jonas Hiller for most, if not all, of the remaining schedule, so McElhinney will continue to serve as a backup with his new team. He isn't likely to play anymore in Anaheim than he did with the Flames.
