COLE FOR PITKANEN
The Edmonton Oilers acquired winger Erik Cole from the Carolina Hurricanes for defenseman Joni Pitkanen.
What does it give the Edmonton Oilers
The Oilers add a speedy, hard-hitting power forward type in Cole. He gives the club another potentially potent complement for their first two lines, as well as veteran leadership. He should work well with Edmonton's youthful core.
What does it give the Carolina Hurricanes
The Hurricanes have been looking for a power-play quarterback for some time now, so Pitkanen should fill a glaring hole. Cole will be missed, but the return from injury of Justin Williams and emergence of Sergei Samsonov could help replace Cole's production.
