LOCKE TO MINNESOTA

The Minnesota Wild acquired forward Corey Locke from the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Shawn Belle.

What does it give the Minnesota Wild
This move could be a great opportunity for Locke to finally prove he belongs in the NHL. A proven scorer everywhere else he has toiled, Locke simply couldn't crack the loaded Canadiens forward ranks. With a lack of depth at center, the Wild may give Locke a shot at the fourth-line center/power-play specialist gig if he shows a lot in training camp.

What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
The Canadiens did Locke a huge favor by moving him to Minnesota, since he'll get a better shot at regular playing time. Conversely, Belle will probably remain an AHLer as long as he's in the Habs organization--with an occasional call-up due to injuries. Since Montreal has a plethora defense prospects on the way, Belle's time is running out in a hurry.
