The Dallas Stars acquired forward Steve Begin from the Montreal Canadiens for defenseman Doug Janik.

Not only does this deal give the Stars an extra body with a number of forwards dealing with injuries, but it also adds some veteran grit to the roster. He'll fill the agitator role Sean Avery did earlier in the season, only with less controversy.
What does it give the Montreal Canadiens
Janik gives the Habs some added depth on the blueline as a reliable defender who will start out in the AHL with his new club. While he won't add much offense, the club is fine in that department among defensemen.
