ISLANDERS TRADE FOR ROLSTON
The New York Islanders acquired forward Brian Rolston from the New Jersey Devils for winger Trent Hunter and a conditional draft pick in 2012.
What does it give the New York Islanders
The Islanders need to reach the salary-cap floor, so adding Rolston in exchange for Hunter helps them towards that end. He is a shadow of what he used to be, but still capable of filling a role on the third or fourth line. The Islanders were also motivated to dump Hunter in this deal, since he's been injury-prone lately.
What does it give the New Jersey Devils
In swapping Rolston for Hunter, the Devils save some money on the cap--which may likely wind up helping in the negotiations with RFA winger Zach Parise. Hunter probably won't play a big role in New Jersey, especially if he continues to battle a knee problem. That said, this move was financially motivated for both parties.
