DUCKS, RANGERS SWAP AHL D-MEN
The Anaheim Ducks acquired defenseman Nigel Williams from the New York Rangers for defenseman Stu Bickel.
What does it give the Anaheim Ducks
The Ducks have been making a lot of moves lately and the recent trade of Danny Syvret to Philadelphia opened up a depth need for another D-man. Enter Williams, a big blueliner who has the potential to be an average NHLer (but hasn't quite put it all together in the minors). This is the second time Williams--a former second-round pick--has been traded, so it's probably time for him to start stepping it up and living up to his potential.
What does it give the New York Rangers
Bickel is probably not as talented as Williams but he's a little older. Bickel's most notable quality is his toughness, and the Rangers need more of that on their blueline. That said, Bickel will probably need to do more at the AHL level than he has to see many opportunities with the big club.
