STARS ADD AULD

The Dallas Stars acquired goaltender Alex Auld from the Ottawa Senators for a sixth-round draft pick in 2010.

What does it give the Dallas Stars
The Stars lost out on the Jonas Gustavsson sweepstakes, so plan B was to acquire Auld to serve as the backup to veteran Marty Turco. Auld is capable of stepping in should something happen to Turco, which is something Dallas lacked last year.

What does it give the Ottawa Senators
Auld had clearly become the No. 3 man on the totem pole in Ottawa, after the younger Pascal Leclaire and Brian Elliott. So, the Sens receive a draft pick and pare a salary off their payroll for next season. This is not likely to be Ottawa's last move.
