SERSEN TO TAMPA BAY

The Tampa Bay Lightning acquired defenseman Michal Sersen from the Pittsburgh Penguins for a fifth-round draft pick in 2009.

What does it give the Tampa Bay Lightning
The Lightning are seeking more help along their blueline, so they will take a flyer on Sersen. The 22-year-old Slovak is currently toiling for HC Slovan Bratislava in his home country. The Bolts will attempt to get him under contract once his season in Europe has concluded.

What does it give the Pittsburgh Penguins
The Penguins essentially gain an extra fifth rounder for nothing with this move, since Sersen was headed for unrestricted free agency after this season. He didn't appear interested in returning to Penguins training camp, so GM Ray Shero took his losses and added another future asset.
