TANGUAY TO CALGARY
The Calgary Flames acquired winger Alex Tanguay from the Colorado Avalanche for defenseman Jordan Leopold, a second-round draft pick in 2006 and a conditional draft pick in 2007 or 2008.
What does it give the Calgary Flames
Offense. Something the Flames were desperately lacking. Alex Tanguay is one of the premier offensive left wingers in the game, and will instantly inject 25-plus goals into the lineup and give Jarome Iginla a legitimate setup man for a linemate. Whoever becomes their centerman will certainly hit the jackpot.
What does it give the Colorado Avalanche
Clears some salary to better enable them to re-sign Rob Blake. At the same time they get an up-and-coming two-way defenseman in Leopold who will learn from the best if they can sign Blake. They also get the 59th overall pick in the draft, which will help restock what has become a depleted farm system.
