KINGS ACQUIRE STURM

The Los Angeles Kings acquired forward Marco Sturm from the Boston Bruins for future considerations.

What does it give the Los Angeles Kings
The Kings are having a tough time scoring consistently this season (at 2.59 goals per game, 19th in the NHL) so a veteran winger with Sturm's proven goal-scoring ability is a must. The big question, of course, is whether he has enough left in the tank to keep contributing at age 32 and coming off a blown-out knee. If he can prove he's healthy and still on his game, look for Sturm to compete for a role on a scoring line with the Kings upon his return to action.

What does it give the Boston Bruins
This move is all about saving cash for the Bruins, who are very close to the salary cap. Moving Sturm's mid-sized deal gives them some financial room to breathe, and shows confidence in the team's younger forwards (including Tyler Seguin, Blake Wheeler and Brad Marchand) in the short term. The Bruins will likely get a mid-round draft pick as compensation for Sturm, but this move was motivated by the salary cap for the most part.
