BLUE JAYS BRING IN GRICHUK FROM ST. LOUIS

The Toronto Blue Jays acquired outfielder Randal Grichuk from the St. Louis Cardinals for pitchers Dominic Leone and Conner Greene.

What does it give the Toronto Blue Jays
In Grichuk, the Blue Jays add a capable outfielder who has struggled with consistency in MLB. He plays good defense (he can play all three outfield positions, but is scheduled to play right field with Toronto) and provides home-run power (though without a great batting average and a lot of strikeouts). The addition of Grichuk was largely made to replace Jose Bautista as the Jays' new starter in right.

What does it give the St. Louis Cardinals
The Cardinals lose what was essentially their No. 4 outfielder, as Tommy Pham had supplanted Grichuk in left field last season (veteran Dexter Fowler will patrol center field, while newcomer Marcell Ozuna is the new right-fielder). In return, the Cardinals get a pretty good pitching prospect in Greene (who has dominant stuff but needs to harness his pitches better) and bullpen depth with Leone.

Fantasy impact
Grichuk should see a spike in his overall numbers, since he will likely play a lot more in Toronto than he was scheduled for with the Cardinals. Greene's stock is also on the rise, as the National League is probably a better situation for him. Leone's value remains extremely limited.
